Gold Trimmed Norwegian Rosemaling Plate – SOLD

This wooden Rosemaling plate is from Asker which is on Oslofjord outside of Oslo, Norway.  The plate is signed with the initials of the artist, BFE – Berit Floberg Evensen.  A sticker on the back has the artist contact information.

Done in the Hallingdal Rosemaling technique that is known for a central flower from which the rest of the décor emanates, the piece is done in rich, harmonious colors.  A deep blue in the background with brown and mustard colors along with shades of blue meld together for a luxurious effect.  Not seen often, there are some highlights done in actual gold paint that adds to the luster.

We’re not sure when this plate was painted.  There is some spots where the paint may have worn away, but it could also be how the artist wanted it – we don’t know!

The plate weighs just under 6-1/2 ounces.  It’s 8.5″ across and stands just under an inch in height.
