Large Wooden Rosemaling Plate
Oh glory – what a beautiful piece this is! And very unique in that it has gold added to the color palette.
In Telemark-style rosemaling, the colors are many; flowers and scrolls in blue, green, pink, mauves and golden with accents in black and cream against a burgundy and black speckled background. The inner rim is gold and black speckled with cream accents, and the outer rim has green and red petals against a blue and black speckled background. The edge is dark brown and black speckled. But, it all melds together beautifully, giving it a very rich appearance.
The artist – Jorunn Øivold – has signed the center of the piece and it’s dated 2005. The artist is from Haslum in Bærum which is on the outskirts of Oslo, the capital of Norway.
The plate weighs around 25oz and is a whopping 15″ in diameter. It stands 2″ tall.
With no visible dents or scratches except those that came from the wood working, this is a piece that will have your visitors amazed at the sophistication of Norway’s folk-art for sure!
