Wooden Blue Rosemaling Plate – SOLD

In the traditional Norwegian blue, this wooden rosemaling plate is ready to hang on your wall.  The rosemaling style is Telemark where symmetrical designs emerge from a central C-shaped scroll.  The colors are hues of green, brown, orange and yellow with blue, white and black accents.  The painting technique is confident and strong; the artist was obviously skilled in rosemaling.

Below the design along the edge, Kaupanger is written – Kaupanger is a village in the west of Norway known for its famous medieval church from the 11th century.

The plate is in great condition and shows no damage or sign of wear.  There are tacks in the back and a wire from the previous owners who obviously had it hanging on a wall.  The plate is just over 8.5″ in diameter and is just over 1″ high.
