Blue Wooden Rosemaling Bowl
$80.00
This shallow wooden Rosemaling bowl was painted by a lady who knows what’s she’s doing! The piece is signed on the back by Inger, a very traditional female name, and dated 1973. So, the bowl is close to 50 years old.
The background is the traditional Norwegian dusky blue, and the style is Telemark. Telemark is identified by the intertwining S- and C-scrolls surroundedby flowers and accents. Elaborate linework in black, white and golden, and shading throughout lends to the typical dimensional look of Rosemaling. It’s almost as if you can see it carved in relief. Colors include shades of brown, blue and green with cream and orange as contrasts.
Around the outer rim are the words; “Bedre føre var enn etter snar. Anno 1973”. Loosely translated, it means better to be careful beforehand than trying to fix things later.
For 50 years old, the bowl is a great shape except for some small spots where the paint has been worn a little. Please see the close-up photos.
The bowl measures 10″ in diameter and stands 1.5″ tall. It weighs 15oz.
