This is a charming wooden Rosemaling bowl done in the Telemark style. Telemark style has clearly defined C and S shaped scrolls surrounded by fanciful flowers and elaborate detaling.
The colors used on this bowl in tones of browns, greens, yellows blues and reds against the beige background create a lovely, crisp contrast. The inner edge is in brown, and the design continues along the out edge. The bowl is dated 1989 and signed with the initials of the artist, JJ. The artist’s strokes are confident and strong. The bowl is in excellent condition despite being over 35 years old; there are a couple of the tiniest spots where the paint is worn but you have to look hard.
Weighing 1lb 8oz, the piece is 11″ in diameter and stands 3.24″ tall. A hanger on the back makes it ready to adorn a wall in your home!
