Mid-Century Porcelain Platter Trivet – Fish with Poem
$35.00
This is a fun piece that can be used as a trivet, a wall plaque or a tapas platter. In Norway, it would be used to prepare and serve an open-face sandwich. The design period is 1960 to 1969. This platter has 67 on the back so we assume that’s the production year. It’s in great shape with no cracks or crazing in the enamel. The platter is 8″ long, 5″ at its widest and 1/4″ thick. It weighs just under 13oz.
The poem is by Johan Herman Wessel, a Danish poet, and says; “At smørrebrød er ikke mad, og kierlighed er ikke had, Det er for tiden hvad jeg ved om smørrebrød og kierlighed”. Loosely translated: “That a sandwich is not a meal, and love is not hate is what I for the time know about sandwiches and love.”
We currently have 2 of these if you want a set.
