Set of Two PrillarGuri Series Pewter Candleholders

$25.00

Statue of PrillarGuri in Otta in central Norway

A set of two pewter candleholders from the Prillar-Guri collection in the 1960’s.  These candle holders will hold multiple widths of candles from tea lights to taper.

Pewter – or tin – dates back to the Roman times in Scandinavia.  Very typical Norwegian, you’ll find pewter in most homes there.  Read about Norwegian pewter here.  And of course, there can’t be many countries that burn more candles than Norway does!  Candles are “koselig“…

The designs of these candles depict PrillarGuri, a legendary woman from the 1600’s.  Prillar means horn and Guri is a common Norwegian girl’s name.  The legend says Guri blew her horn to warn of an invasion by Scots.  You can read more here.

The candleholders are 3.5″ at their widest, and 3.5″ tall.  The bottoms are covered in felt to protect your table.  Each weighs 12oz.  Approximately 60 years old, the candleholders show some signs of use but there are no dents or scratches.
