The colors on this wooden Rosemaling bowl are so lovely! Painted on an aqua blue background, the style is Telemark with the signature S-scrolls in tans and black with surrounding flowers in blues, maroons and greens tones with tan colored accents. The inner and out sides have accents in the same tan colors. The bottom of the bowl is painted brown.
The bowl is signed by the artist S. Slaathaug and dated 1974. It was found in Oslo, Norway’s capital. The bowl is 10″ in diameter and 4″ tall. It weighs 1.5 pounds.
Over 50 years old, the bowl is in great shape with no scratches we can see. The bottom shows marks from the carpenter’s lathe and a few spots where the brown paint has worn away, the these are only visible when you turn the bowl upside down. The bowl’s shape is interesting with an outer lip along the middle.
This bowl would look wonderful on your dining table and will no doubt get comments from your guests!
